I was arrested in Suffolk County for a DWI. What will happen when I go to court?
Typically, your first appearance in court is your arraignment before a judge in Suffolk County. This usually happens within hours of your arrest. However, in some cases, you will be released and given an appearance ticket to appear at a later date. Your arraignment is when you or your lawyer plead not guilty to the charges against you. In most instances, the judge will immediately suspend your driving privileges while your case is pending in court. You will often be eligible for a conditional or hardship license for work and other limited purposes.
